James Corbett Architects is an award winning design-led practice interested in exploring contemporary architecture through a projects relationship with its context, tactile interaction with materials and how people inhabit and move through the spaces we create. 

Each project we undertake is unique. A specific design is generated in response to our Clients brief, site, budget and other cultural, geographical and environmental parameters. The architecture we practice is never generic.

James Corbett Architects are a member practice of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland. The practice was formed initially in 2008 as Donoghue Corbett Architects which in 2013 became established as James Corbett Architects.


James Corbett (BSc Arch, Dip Arch, MRIAI) is the practice director and has many years architectural experience since graduating from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2000. He has worked for leading architecture practices in both Dublin & London before returning to Ireland in 2008.

Maria Donoghue (BSc Arch, Dip Arch, MA (Dist), MRIAI) is an associate architect and urbanist in James Corbett Architect whose multidisciplinary training and experience throughout various sectors in the construction industry allow her to work easily across contexts and scales. Maria was born in Co Galway and graduated in 2000 with honours from the Dublin Institute of Technology and Trinity College Dublin. She completed a masters degree with distinction in 2004 in City Design and Regeneration from LMU ASD. 

She established Donoghue Corbett Architects with James in 2008 and lectured in the School of Architecture at the University of Limerick (SAUL) from 2008-2013.

Maria worked in Limerick City and County Council from 2013 as part of the Limerick Regeneration Physical Programme Team, and from 2018 managed Design and Delivery Services, the department of architects and engineers responsible for delivery of Housing, Public Realm and other Capital Projects. 

She returned to James Corbett Architects in 2020.
